Selling or buying a business is a very complex and emotional process. In fact, I came to CBB as a buyer looking to purchase a business a few years after my retirement from the international corporate mergers and acquisitions arena. My wife, Rose, an entrepreneur at heart, had sold the business she started in 1993 to a corporate acquirer to coincide with my retirement. We enjoyed a few years as empty nesters and then got the itch to go into business together. So, we know how it feels to be both a buyer and a seller.
I was probably considered one of those "tire kickers" by Doug Ashby, the CBB broker who assisted us in our acquisition search, because we raised the red flag as being a looker instead of a buyer. Yes, it took us a long time to find the perfect fit. We visited the other brokerages in the area but kept coming back to CBB because they had the largest selection and the most interesting listings from which to choose. During those couple of years we became familiar with CBB's excellent reputation and their top standing in the field of business brokerage.
Then one day, Doug gave us a call and asked if we'd be interested in buying a business brokerage firm. We told him we would if it was CBB who was selling. We consider it our good fortune that the then managing partner had to move out of state and had to sell. The four other partners joined together to facilitate the transfer of ownership to Rose and me. We also had the happy privilege of retaining the four other partners and the entire staff to continue the 30-year legacy that is CBB.
After all of our growth and thousands of businesses sold, Certified Business Brokers is still the same in many ways. Theresa, the office manager, is celebrating her 26th year with the firm. Angela, our marketing assistant, is working on eight years. While most of our brokers have decades with the firm, we've added some new faces to our team who have had the opportunity to learn from the best, the pioneers in the business brokerage profession.
Our enhanced and ever evolving technology has facilitated even better service to our clients and customers. We believe that our best clients and customers are those who are well-versed in the business buying and selling process, which is why we strive to provide the best educational tools available.
